Bali is one of the 33 provinces of the Republic of Indonesia and located at the western most of the Lesser Sunda Islands, lying between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. Bali has an area of 5.632.86 km2 and is divided into 8 regencies in which each regency is under the authority of the Governor. Those regencies are subdivided into districts, municipalities and villages (Banjar).
The island is home to the vast majority of Indonesia’s small Hindu minority with the population of 3.150.000 (as of 2005).
The climate is hot and humid with an average temperature of 28 degrees C. The rainy season lasts from October to March and percentage of humidity fluctuates between 75% and 80% depending on the season. Winds blow from the east during the dry season and from the west during rainy season.
Bali is surrounded by coral reefs. Beaches in the north and west tend to have black sand while these in the south white sand. The island does not only have beach but also mounts with beautiful rice fields watered by shallow rivers, forests with many kinds of flora and fauna inside.
The smiling people, the Balinese ceremony, temples, arts and crafts are the major attractive things that can be found in Bali.
